Surrounded by misty hills, gushing rivers, and thick jungle, Kitulgala is famed as the filming location of the Academy Award-winning Movie The Bridge on the River Kwai. While the bridge itself no longer remains, the adventure that surrounds it is very much alive.Kitulgala serves as the perfect base for trekking through tea estates, rainforests, and rocky trails, with opportunities to hike up scenic mountains or explore hidden forest paths. Day 01: Arrival in Sri Lanka – Scenic Journey to the Cultural Capital, Kandy

Your journey in Sri Lanka begins with a warm and heartfelt welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport in Negombo, where our friendly representative will meet and assist you upon arrival. From here, you’ll embark on a picturesque 3-hour drive to the historic hill capital of Kandy, passing through lush countryside, charming villages, and scenic tea-covered hills.

Kandy, once the final stronghold of Sri Lanka’s ancient monarchy, is now a UNESCO World Heritage City that beautifully blends spirituality, culture, and natural splendor. Day 02: Heeloya Village Trek – Knuckles Mountain Range

After an early morning transfer from your hotel, get ready for a truly immersive cultural and nature experience in Heeloya, one of the most picturesque and untouched villages nestled at the foothills of the Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Accompanied by an experienced trekking guide and a friendly local villager, you’ll embark on a scenic walk through diverse and unspoiled landscapes. The trail leads you across pine forests, lush tea plantations, jungle patches, cascading waterfalls, sparkling streams, and terraced paddy fields—offering a rare and authentic glimpse into rural Sri Lankan life far from commercial tourism.

Day 03: Kandy to Kitulgala – A Journey into Adventure & Nature

After breakfast, depart from the heritage city of Kandy and embark on a scenic drive to Kitulgala, one of Sri Lanka’s top adventure and eco-tourism destinations. The journey takes you through rolling green hills, tea-covered highlands, and misty forest patches, offering glimpses of waterfalls and charming countryside life along the way.

Upon reaching Kitulgala, nestled by the lush banks of the Kelani River, you’ll have the option to enjoy an exhilarating White Water Rafting experience (based on your interest and fitness level). This section of the river offers the perfect balance of adventure and safety, with rapids ideal for both beginners and thrill-seekers.

If you prefer a gentler experience, we can arrange a safe and refreshing river bath in a calm part of the river—perfect for unwinding in nature.

Kitulgala is also famous among birdwatching enthusiasts, as it hosts a wide range of endemic species similar to those in the Sinharaja Rainforest, including the Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Green-billed Coucal, and Spot-winged Thrush. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya, take time to explore this serene town with its colonial-era buildings, English-style gardens, and the tranquil beauty of Gregory Lake. The crisp mountain air and peaceful ambiance make it a refreshing escape from the lowlands.

Day 05 Horton Plains National Park – A Highland Wilderness Experience

Early in the morning, set off for an unforgettable visit to Horton Plains National Park, located about 1.5 hours from Nuwara Eliya. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a protected highland plateau, sitting over 2,000 meters above sea level, and is one of the most scenic and ecologically significant locations in Sri Lanka.

The highlight of Horton Plains is the famous hike to “World’s End”, a dramatic 880-meter (2,890 ft) cliff drop offering breathtaking panoramic views across the southern plains. On a clear morning, you may even catch a glimpse of the Indian Ocean in the distance.

The 9 km (5.5 mile) circular trekking trail takes you through misty grasslands, cloud forests, and along crystal-clear streams. Another popular stop along the trail is the beautiful Baker’s Falls, cascading down through lush greenery and ferns.

After a relaxed breakfast at your hotel, begin your journey from the misty hills of Nuwara Eliya to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo for your departure flight. The drive takes approximately 5.5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions.

As you descend from the cool highlands through tea country, forested valleys, and vibrant rural villages, take in the final glimpses of Sri Lanka’s breathtaking central landscape. Your chauffeur will ensure a smooth and comfortable transfer, with rest stops and photo opportunities along the way if time permits.

We recommend scheduling your departure flight in the late evening or night to allow ample travel time and a leisurely drive to the airport.
