Day 01: Arrival in Sri Lanka & Explore Negombo

Negombo is renowned for its golden sandy beaches, centuries-old fishing industry, and its lively markets and seafood restaurants. The town is a unique cultural melting pot with a large bilingual population, predominantly Roman Catholic, and a harmonious blend of Sinhala and Tamil-speaking communities.

The name “Negombo” is believed to have originated from the Portuguese adaptation of the Tamil word Neerkolombu. According to local legend recorded in the ancient Rajaveliya, the Sinhala name “Mee-Gomuwa” – meaning Village of the Honeycomb – was given after King Kavantissa’s men found bee honey along the shore for Queen Viharamahadevi, who was expecting the future king, Dutugemunu. Day 03: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya via Scenic Train Journey

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, proceed to Kandy Railway Station to board the iconic train to Nanu Oya—one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. This captivating ride winds through lush tea plantations, mist-covered mountains, sparkling waterfalls, and quaint villages, offering you a truly immersive experience of Sri Lanka’s breathtaking hill country. Sit back, relax, and soak in the stunning landscapes as the train traverses the heart of the island.

Day 04: Mirissa – Nuwara Eliya & Horton Plains

Early in the morning leave from Nuwara Eliya, an optional excursion to Horton Plains National Park can be arranged (usually early morning next day) — a spectacular nature reserve located at the southern tip of Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands. Discovered in the early 19th century and named after Governor Sir Robert Wilmot Horton, this park is famous for its rolling montane plateau, unique flora and fauna, and the awe-inspiring World’s End escarpment, a cliff dropping 900 meters. The park also features beautiful waterfalls like Baker’s Falls and is the source of three major rivers: The Mahaweli, Walave, and Kelani.

Start your day with a visit to a local tea factory in Nuwara Eliya, where you will discover the fascinating process of tea manufacturing—from plucking fresh tea leaves to the final packaging. You’ll even have the chance to experience traditional tea plucking yourself, immersing in the authentic culture of Sri Lanka’s world-famous tea industry. After exploring the tea factory, enjoy a brief tour of Nuwara Eliya town, often called “Little England” for its charming colonial architecture and cool climate. Later, Next day you will be transferred to Nanu Oya train station to board the scenic train to Ella, a journey renowned for breathtaking mountain and tea plantation views.

Your scenic drive will descend through lush tea plantations, cascading waterfalls, and verdant forests, gradually transitioning into drier landscapes as you make your way toward Buttala, a charming rural town surrounded by paddy fields and mountains. This route offers a unique contrast in climate, scenery, and vegetation—making the drive an experience in itself.

En route, you may wish to make short stops for photography, traditional snacks, or to simply enjoy the changing vistas. You’ll pass through small villages and rural communities where you can observe local life unfolding amidst the natural beauty of Sri Lanka’s countryside.

Arrive in Tissamaharama by late afternoon and check in at your hotel. Once the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Ruhuna, Tissamaharama today is a peaceful town adorned with lakes, stupas, and scenic surroundings. After an early morning wake-up call, set off on a thrilling full-day safari adventure at Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife reserve. Known for having one of the world’s highest densities of leopards, Yala is also home to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, spotted deer, wild boar, and a stunning variety of birds including peacocks, eagles, and painted storks.
