You’ll also visit the Ahungalla Turtle Conservation Project, where you can witness conservation efforts to protect endangered sea turtles. Start with a boat safari on the Madu Ganga River, Sri Lanka’s second-largest wetland ecosystem, renowned for its mangrove forests and island-dotted estuary. Continue your journey to Ambalangoda, a coastal town known for its vibrant mask-making tradition. Day 02: Mirissa – Whale Watching & Coastal Wonders
Begin your day with an early morning Whale and Dolphin Watching Excursion in the scenic coastal town of Mirissa, one of the best locations in the world for marine mammal sightings. Set out on a comfortable and well-equipped boat for a journey approximately 15 kilometers into the deep sea, where the adventure unfolds.
You’ll have the remarkable opportunity to witness majestic Blue Whales, the largest animals on Earth, along with Bryde’s Whales, Sperm Whales, Fin Whales, and even the elusive Killer Whales. The ocean often comes alive with pods of playful Dolphins—including Spinner, Bottlenose, Risso’s, and Striped Dolphins—joyfully leaping through the waves.
Other possible sightings include flying fish, sea turtles, manta rays, and occasionally, sharks. This unforgettable experience is most rewarding between November and April, during the peak migration season.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided onboard as you relax and take in the open sea views. After returning from the sea, you’ll journey along the southern coast: Unawatuna Beach – Famous for its golden crescent shoreline, turquoise waters, and swaying palm trees, Unawatuna is a beloved beach destination. Rich in marine biodiversity and coral reefs, it’s a great spot to unwind or swim. Day 03: Transfer to Udawalawe via Tissamaharama – Wildlife Safari & Elephant Conservation
After breakfast, begin your scenic journey from Mirissa to Udawalawe via Tissamaharama, passing lush countryside and charming southern towns along the way.
Upon arrival, enjoy an unforgettable wildlife experience with an afternoon safari at Udawalawe National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s top destinations for observing wildlife in their natural habitat. This expansive reserve is renowned for its large population of wild Sri Lankan elephants, as well as water buffalo, crocodiles, spotted deer, jackals, and a wide variety of bird species. The park’s open landscapes, grasslands, and reservoirs make it ideal for viewing wildlife up close.
Udawalawe National Park was officially declared a national park on June 30th, 1972, and remains a vital sanctuary for both flora and fauna. It is particularly noted for its role in protecting endangered water birds and migratory species.
Before your safari, visit the Elephant Transit Home (ETH), a remarkable conservation initiative established in 1995 with support from the Born Free Foundation. This facility provides shelter, medical care, and rehabilitation for orphaned and injured elephant calves from across Sri Lanka. Visitors can observe these young elephants being bottle-fed (typically four times a day) and engaging in playful behavior under the care of dedicated wildlife professionals. Once rehabilitated, they are released into the wild and monitored to ensure their continued survival.

Day 04: Full-Day Private Safari – Yala National Park
Early breakfast packed meal, embark on an exciting full-day private safari adventure into Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s most renowned wildlife sanctuary. Located in the island’s southeastern region, Yala spans over 970 square kilometers of dense forests, open grasslands, and tranquil lagoons that stretch to the Indian Ocean.
Yala is most famous for having the highest density of leopards anywhere in the world. These elusive and majestic predators are often spotted prowling confidently through the park’s rugged terrain, earning their title as the true Lords of the Jungle. Alongside leopards, the park is also home to Asian elephants, sloth bears, wild boars, sambar deer, spotted deer, and the golden jackal—offering a rich and diverse experience for wildlife enthusiasts.
As your private safari unfolds, you’ll also encounter a stunning array of birdlife, with over 130 recorded species. Watch flocks of painted storks, pelicans, flamingos, and eagles as they gather around the park’s lagoons and marshes. During the north-east monsoon season, thousands of migratory birds such as Eurasian curlews, whimbrels, pintails, and garganeys join the resident species in a vivid display of avian beauty.
Yala’s reptilian inhabitants include the mugger crocodile, estuarine crocodile, Russell’s viper, and the Indian cobra, while the park’s coastal areas serve as nesting grounds for olive ridley and leatherback turtles.
